In the pitchers' hell known as Coors Field, the Rockies take a pair from the Mets, outslugging them 107 and 1110. The two games feature 59 hits, including eight home runs, off 17 pitchers. In the first inning of the nitecap, Dante Bichette, Andres Galarraga, and Vinny Castilla hit consecutive homers off Pete Harnisch. Galarraga hits another in the 3rd, one of his six hits for the day.

The Rockies jump to a 70 lead over the Braves, then need back to back homers in the 10th to win, 97. Andres Galarraga, with his 2nd homer, and Vinny Castilla homer off Mark Wohlers for the victory. Galarraga now leads the National League in RBIs with 107.

The Rockies defeat the Pirates, 13-9, despite five hits, including a home run, by Pittsburgh 2B Jeff King. Larry Walker and Vinny Castilla each drive home four runs for Colorado.

Vinny Castilla reaches the 100-RBI plateau, joining teammates Andres Galarraga, Ellis Burks, and Dante Bichette. Not since the Cubs and Phillies of 1929 has a team had four players reach the mark.

The Rockies beat the Giants, 123, as Andres Galarraga has three hits, three runs and three RBIs. He finishes the season with 150 ribbies, the first to reach that mark since Tommy Davis in 1962, and his 47 homers leads the NL. Dante Bichette collects his 141st RBI giving the Rockies two players with 140+ ribbies, the first time two teammates have topped the mark since the 1950 Red Sox. Vinny Castilla hits his 40th homer, joining Ellis Burks and Galarraga as the 2nd team (Braves) to have three teammates reach that mark.

Andres Galarraga hits a 469-foot two-run homer and Vinny Castilla chips in with a solo shot as the Colorado Rockies overcome a 6-run deficit to beat the Cardinals, 97. Galarraga has four RBIs and his moon shot, off Mark Petkovsek, is the third-longest homer in the three-season history of Coors Field.

In Montreal, Vinny Castilla has five hits, including two home runs, as the Rockies outslug the Expos, 119. Castilla's two-run shot off Dave Veres with two outs in the 12th gives Colorado just its third win in 19 games.

In Miami, Florida's Bobby Bonilla fouls off six two-strike pitches before blasting a grand slam with two outs in the ninth inning to give the Marlins a dramatic 96 win. For Bonilla, it is his 8th career slam. Larry Walker, Andres Galarraga, and Vinny Castilla homer for Colorado, which sets an NL record with 223 homers this year.

The Arizona Diamondbacks drop a 92 decision to the Rockies in their first game ever. P Andy Benes is tagged with the loss, and rookies Travis Lee, who gets three hits, and Karim Garcia hit home runs. Vinny Castilla drives in five runs for Colorado.

» April 4, 1999: In the first season opener ever played outside of the United States or Canada, the Rockies defeat the Padres, 82, before an overflow crowd of 27,104 in Monterrey, Mexico. OF Dante Bichette has four hits, including a home run, and four RBIs for the winners. Local hero Vinny Castilla also has four hits for the Rockies, while Darryl Kile picks up the victory.

The Rockies defeat the Brewers, 12-11, as 3B Vinny Castilla hits three home runs and drives home 5. Castilla also strokes a single in his five trips to the plate.

In what is believed to be baseball's first 4-team swap since 1985, the Rockies obtain 3B Jeff Cirillo, Ps Rolando Arrojo and Scott Karl, and IF Aaron Ledesma, the Devil Rays obtain 3B Vinny Castilla, the Brewers obtain Ps Jamey Wright and Jimmy Haynes, and C Henry Blanco, and the Athletics obtain P Justin Miller.
» July 28, 2001: In a day-night DH, Vinny Castilla of the Houston Astros became the 13th player this season to hit three home runs in a game when he does it against the Pittsburgh, but the Pirates still edge the Astros, 98, with an amazing comeback. Pittsburgh becomes only the 2nd team in NL history to win a game by scoring seven runs with two outs and nobody on base in the 9th inning. Brian Giles caps the scoring with a walk-off grand slam off Astros ace Billy Wagner to win it. The Cubs did it, against the Reds, in the first game of a doubleheader on June 29, 1952.
