Burns proved to be a valuable man on the A's pennant-winning 1988 staff, relieving, filling in for injured rotation members when needed, and compiling an 8-2, 3.16 record. In 1989 he was effective replacing the injured Dennis Eckersley in the role of bullpen stopper. (JFC)
