Buice had pitched ten years in the minors, including two in Mexico, before going
6-7 with a club-high 17 saves as a 29-year-old Angels rookie in 1987. He averaged
almost a strikeout an inning. He was leading the staff in games but had a 5.11 ERA
in June 1988 when he was disabled with a leg injury.

Baltimore's Mike Young ties a major-league record by hitting a pair of extra inning home runs, connecting consecutively in the 10th and 12th innings off DeWayne Buice. He's just the 5th major leaguer to do it and the first since Ralph Garr, in 1971. The Orioles edge the Angels , 8–7.
