A slightly built, slap-hitting Virgin Islander, Browne was the Rangers' 1987 Rookie of the Year, winning their second-base job and batting .271 with 27 stolen bases. He was hitting .197 in June 1988 when he was returned to the minors. Traded to the Indians in the Julio Franco deal, he had his best season in 1989, hitting .299 with 83 runs scored. (JCA)

» December 6, 1988: The Rangers complete their 2nd major trade in as many days, sending 1B Pete O'Brien, OF Oddibe McDowell, and 2B Jerry Browne to Cleveland for 2B Julio Franco. The Expos and Phillies also complete a trade, P Kevin Gross to Montreal for pitchers Jeff Parrett and Floyd Youmans.

» October 12, 1992: Dave Stewart stops Toronto on eight hits, and reserve IF Jerry Browne strokes four himself, as the A's avoid elimination with a 6–2 win in Game Five of the ALCS. Ruben Sierra and Dave Winfield homer in the contest.
