» Robert Creamer on Babe Ruth's called shot

A tall first baseman at the University of San Francisco, Brown once hit two bases-loaded triples in one inning. He signed with Sacramento of the PCL in 1914 but never went any higher. He became sports editor of the San Francisco Call-Post, then the New York Evening Mail. In 1923, he took over as sports editor of the Chicago Herald Examiner. He covered every World Series from 1920 to 1964. He was chairman of the Veterans Committee of the Hall of Fame. His books included The Chicago Cubs, The Chicago White Sox, and Knute Rockne. In 1973 he received the J.G. Taylor Spink Award from the Hall of Fame. (NLM)
