The 6'4" 295-lb giant fielded his position with surprising agility, but his fastball
was ineffective after four innings. An undistinguished reliever throughout most of
his career, he was most effective with the Giants in his final four seasons. He tied
for the NL lead in saves in 1940 (7) and led in 1941 (8).
