Brodie was a solid, lefthanded-hitting outfielder who from 1893 to 1897 played 574
consecutive games. He batted .329 over those seasons. He was an important cog in
the Baltimore Oriole machine that won National League pennants in 1894-96. Playing
centerfield, he led NL outfielders in fielding with Pittsburgh in 1897 and with the
Orioles in 1899. In 1900 he left the disbanded Baltimore franchise for the Chicago
White Sox of the minor American League. In 1901 he was back in the majors with John
McGraw's AL Baltimore Orioles.
