At Fenway Park, the Red Sox complete a three game sweep of the Senators, all by 2–0 shut outs. The Boston winning pitchers were Tom Brewer, Frank Sullivan and Ike Delock. Today's win was marred when Ted Williams, in a fit of anger, flings his bat into the stands striking Joe Cronin's housekeeper, Gladys Heffernan, in the face. She is not badly hurt, and Williams is very apologetic. But American League President Will Harridge will fine Williams for a bat-throwing incident
» April 12, 1959: After two rainouts, the Yankees and Red Sox open at Yankee Stadium before 22,559, as the 42 degree temperature threatens a third postponement. Bob Turley allows just two Sox hits and Norm Siebern's 8th inning homer provides a 3–2 New York victory. Siebern's hit is his 3rd of the game off Tom Brewer.

Boston's Tom Brewer shuts out the Yankees, 4–0, on two hits, besting Bob Turley who beat him last week. It is the 1st shut out by a Bosox pitcher since August 7, 1956—a 55 game stretch.

On Patriot's Day at Fenway Park, Roger Maris makes his debut with the Yankees a smash as he goes 4-for-5, including two home runs, and drives in four runs. The Yanks spoil Boston's opener with an 8–4 win as Jim Coates goes all the way for New York. Tom Brewer is the loser. Red Sox catcher Haywood Sullivan has his first ML hit after five seasons and 16 at bats. Mayor John Collins, wheel-chair bound because of polio, tosses out the first ball.
