Boston gets a leadoff hitter when the Mariners trade OF Darren Bragg to the Red Sox in exchange for P Jamie Moyer. Moyer, in a portent of his success with the M's, is 7-1.

The host Tigers blast the Red Sox 15–4. The Sox, trailing by 12 runs, try OF Darren Bragg at 3B, and put IF Mike Benjamin on the mound for the 9th. Benjamin retires all three batters, the only one of five Sox hurlers to do so.
