The hard-working Blaeholder was one of the original exponents of the slider, perfecting the "nickle curve" while pitching for the hapless St. Louis Browns. Although he never had a winning season for the Browns, he had ten wins or more for seven consecutive years. His four shutouts led the AL in 1929. (JK)
FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» May 21, 1925: A' rookie Mickey Cochrane hits three homers to lead Philadelphia to 20–4 rout over the Browns. His first two clouts come off Milt Gaston, and the third off George Blaeholder. He will hit just another two all year to total six.

» August 19, 1930: Goose Goslin hits three consecutive home runs for St. Louis to back George Blaeholder's 7–0 shutout of the Philadelphia A's.

» August 21, 1931: After belting #599, a grand slam in yesterday's game, Babe Ruth hits his 600th home run, off George Blaeholder of the Browns, as the Yankees win 11–7. Lou Gehrig homers immediately after the Babe's historic blow. In their 10 years as teammates, they will homer in the same inning 19 times and in the same game 72 times.

» September 17, 1931: In the first of two, the Yankees and Red Ruffing rough up the Browns and George Blaeholder, 17–0. Bill Dickey's grand slam is the big blow. The Yanks take the nitecap, 6–1 behind Lefty Gomez's three hitter and Babe Ruth's 41st and 42nd homers of the year.

» May 21, 1935: The A's acquire P George Blaeholder, who won 10 or more games in each of the last seven seasons, from the Browns for Ed Coleman and Sugar Cain. Blaeholder had one of the highest salaries on the cash-poor Browns.
