Biancalana made the majors with a strong arm and good glove. He battled Onix Concepcion for the Royals' shortstop job, but neither hit well enough. Lack of discipline at the plate handicapped Biancalana's hitting, but he started all 14 postseason games for the 1985 Royals and handled 55 chances flawlessly while making several dazzling plays.
