    FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» May 13, 1996: In Miami, Terry Pendleton smashes a dramatic two-out grand slam in the 6th inning, following the ejection of starter Alan Benes, to lift the Marlins to a 5–2 win over the Cardinals. Benes (1–6) is ejected for hitting Gary Sheffield with a pitch that sparks a bench-clearing by both teams. Pendleton has driven in 11 runs in the past three games as the Marlins win their 8th straight.

» May 16, 1997: Michael Tucker's 2-out double in the 9th breaks up Alan Benes' no-hitter. Benes, unfortunately, is matched against Greg Maddux, who holds the Cards scoreless for eight innings. The Braves finally push across a run in the 13th on Andruw Jones' infield dribbler to beat Cardinals reliever John Frascatore, 1–0. The teams combine for 33 strikeouts, three shy of matching the National League record for an extra-inning game set by the Giants and Mets in 23-innings in 1964.

» September 6, 2002: The Cardinals defeat the Cubs, 11–2, as brothers Andy Benes and Alan Benes oppose each other in the 7th matchup of brothers in ML history. Andy gets the win while Alan takes the loss. The Cards score all 11 of their runs in the 3rd inning.
