Bell was one of only two pitchers to last the entire 1987 season on the Orioles' roster (Mike Boddicker was the other), and he tied Boddicker for the club lead in wins with 10. Elbow surgery sidelined him for the entire 1988 season and left his career in jeopardy. (ME)
FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» September 9, 1991: At Cleveland, Eric Bell debuts with three innings of scoreless relief, and leaves in the 8th with the score, 3–3. The Sox score a run and win, 4–3.

» September 14, 1991: In the 10th inning of the game between Cleveland and Baltimore, Indians reliever Eric Bell pitches to the Orioles' 2B Juan Bell, who skies a fly to left where it is caught by the Tribe's Albert Belle. Cleveland comes out on top with a 6–5 win, and Eric Bell, with one 2/3 innings of relief, rings up his first win.

» September 22, 1991: Eric Bell fires four innings of scoreless relief, and the Indians score two in the 9th to beat the Orioles, 2–1. With the 6,863 in attendance, the Tribe tops one million.

» October 4, 1991: Trailing 3–2 in the 9th, Cleveland's Jim Thome hits a two-out, two-run homer, his first in the majors, to give the Tribe the lead over the Yankees. Steve Olin pitches the 9th to save the win for reliever Eric Bell. With four wins over the past month, Bell (4-0) ends the year with the most wins for an undefeated pitcher on a team losing a hundred games (as noted by Greg Crouse).
