In a 5–3 loss to the visiting Mariners, the Indians David Bell hits the 1st inside-the-park home run in Jacobs Field history and the 1st for the Indians since July 18, 1989 (Joe Carter). Randy Johnson and Kenny Lofton are both ejected after the two argue about inside pitches.

Bell's 2–run double brings home the go–ahead run in the Indians 7–4 win over Buddy Bell's Detroit Tigers. Bump Wills and Moises Alou are the only other players to appear in games against their fathers.

Richie Sexson hit a 2–run single in Cleveland's 10–run first inning, as the Tribe scalps Oakland, 15–6. Sexton hits his 4th homer in three days, and Manny Ramirez hits his 34th homer and knocks in five runs for starter Dave Burba. Joey Cora, acquired hours before the game from Seattle for David Bell, scores two runs and drives in 2.

In a game featuring 10 home runs, the Rockies defeat the Mariners by a score of 16-11. Butch Huskey, Ken Griffey Jr., David Bell, and David Segui homer for Seattle. Angel Echevarria homers twice for the Rockies, who also get round-trippers from Edgard Clemente, Kurt Abbott, Dante Bichette, and P Curtis Leskanic.
» May 9, 2001: Red Sox 2B Chris Stynes, who had three hits in yesterday's win, suffers two fractures in his left cheekbone when he is hit by an Aaron Sele pitch in the 2nd inning. He'll miss six weeks. Seattle breaks a 5–5 tie in the 8th on John Olerud's double to win, 10–5. David Bell has four RBI for the M's, while Trot Nixon homers and Manny Ramirez and Troy O'Leary go back-to-back in the 4th.
