The native Brooklynite went 11-5 his rookie season. Manager Burt Shotton said poor work habits kept Behrman from reaching his potential.

»May 3, 1947:
The Dodgers ship pitchers Hank Behrman, Cal McLish and Kirby Higbe, and minor leaguers Gene Mauch and C Dixie Howell to the Pirates for OF Al Gionfriddo and $100,000. Behrman, with no appearances for Brooklyn this year will go 0-2 before the Bucs send him back to Brooklyn on June 14.
»July 18, 1948:
The Cards beat the Dodgers, 6–3, in 11 innings, then drop the nitecap, 13–4. In the 2nd inning, 17 Dodgers reach base against the Cardinals with nine hits, six walks, a fielder's choice, and an error before P Hank Behrman whiffs to end the inning. The other outs are on the bases.
»May 5, 1949:
At the Polo Grounds, Johnny Mize pounds a 10th-inning homer and the Giants beat the Pirates 3–2 to sweep their three-game series. The homer, off Murry Dickson, is Big John's 300th. Reliever Hank Behrman, in for Sheldon Jones, pitches out of tight jams in the 9th and 10th to win. Wally Westlake is stranded in the 10th after reaching Behrman for a leadoff triple.
