In the minors, Beauchamp proved a good defensive outfielder and basestealer while hitting 186 home runs. The majority of his big league appearances came as a pinch hitter, and he collected 46 hits that way. His son, James, Jr., signed with Toronto in 1982. (FJO)

» May 23, 1965: The Braves trade OF Lee Maye to the Astros for P Ken Johnson and OF Jim Beauchamp.

» October 10, 1967: The Reds swap Deron Johnson to the Braves, getting P Jay Ritchie, and outfielders Mack Jones and Jim Beauchamp.

» August 26, 1968: The Phils take a 5–0 lead over the Reds, only to lose 6–5. Jim Beauchamp hits a run-scoring single in the 7th for the winner.

» July 4, 1970: The Cards send three pinch hitters to the plate in the 8th inning and all three strike out. Steve Renko of the Expos fans 10 in the game, including Jim Beauchamp, Vic Davalillo, and Leron Lee in the 8th, to give Montreal an 8–0 win.

» August 22, 1972: Jim Beauchamp hits a home run and drives in all the Mets run in a 4–2 win over the Astros. Yesterday, Beauchamp celebrated his birthday with a pair of home runs as the Mets beat the Astros by the same score.
