This roly-poly wartime big leaguer was a Pacific Coast League standout, with seven 20-win seasons, 234 wins, and the league's most career strikeouts. After an 0-4 start with the Cubs in 1943, he was sold to the Phillies and responded with a 14-inning, 1-0 blanking of Cincinnati. His 20 losses led the NL in 1945. (JK)

» June 1, 1944: Dick Barrett, the winning pitcher in the Phillies 8-7 win over the Reds, has a double, triple, 4 RBI, plus 3 wild pitches.

» May 15, 1948: In a PCL game, Seattle's Dick Barrett stops Sacramento, 2–0 with a 7-inning perfect game.
