Bancroft introduced baseball to Cuba in 1879 when he took a touring team to the Caribbean.
He managed six ML clubs through the 1880s, including the 1884 Providence Grays, who
won the first World Series. He spent 30 years as business manager for the Cincinnati
Reds.
