Bancroft introduced baseball to Cuba in 1879 when he took a touring team to the Caribbean. He managed six ML clubs through the 1880s, including the 1884 Providence Grays, who won the first World Series. He spent 30 years as business manager for the Cincinnati Reds. (JK)

» February 15, 1889: Indianapolis, which has been without a manager since October, finally comes to terms with vet Frank Bancroft to manage in 1889.

» January 25, 1893: Cincinnati business manager Frank C. Bancroft reminisces about "the time when police had to escort the umpire to the depot, and when cannons were fired when a game was won. That's the sort of baseball you want."

» January 28, 1893: It is announced that Frank Bancroft is spending the remainder of the off-season serving as the manager of Linda Gardner's Mastodon Minstrels.

» July 11, 1902: Bid McPhee resigns as Reds manager and is replaced by interim manager Frank Bancroft.
