Baldwin's 34 losses led the American Association in 1889, but he also won 27 that year for sixth-place Columbus, and struck out 368 (a season high since topped only by Nolan Ryan and Sandy Koufax). The next year with Chicago his 32 wins tied for the Players' League lead. (FIC)

» October 2nd, 1890: Chicago (PL) P Mark Baldwin beats New York 4-0 for his 34th win versus 24 losses. For the 2nd straight year he pitches 54 complete games and over 500 innings.

» September 12th, 1891: Mark Baldwin of Pittsburgh pitches 2 complete-game victories in Brooklyn, winning 13-3 and 8­4 while allowing a total of 11 hits. This gives him 4 wins in 6 days.

» July 31st, 1893: New York's Mark Baldwin surrenders only 3 hits, but is outdueled by Ed Stein, who pitches his 2nd one-hitter of the season to lead Brooklyn to a 3-0 victory.
