In 1909, as the replacement for Cy Young in the Red Sox pitching rotation, the swarthy Arellanes had his one decent year, (16-12, 2.18 ERA), giving up only 1.68 walks per nine innings. He relieved between starts and led the AL with 8 saves. (EC)

» September 4, 1908: In the nitecap of a twinbill in Boston, Frank Arellanes tosses a one hitter and the Red Sox collect 13 hits to defeat the A's, 10-1. Light-hitting Simon Nicholls clubs his 4th homer of the year for the only A's hit.

» September 18, 1908: Cleveland's Bob Rhoads pitches a no-hitter against the Red Sox 2-1, beating Frank Arellanes, the only Mexican-American pitcher in the ML.

» May 30, 1909: the A's Frank Baker belts the first homer over the RF wall at Shibe Park. His drive comes off Red Sox hurler Frank Arellanes.

» September 20, 1914: John Lush of Portland (PCL) pitches a 9-inning no-hitter against Venice, losing 1–0. It is the 2nd no-hit loss in the PCL in five years (Frank Arellanes, Sacramento, October 17, 1910, loses 2–0).
