FROM THE BASEBALL CHRONOLOGY
» July 27, 1992: Houston starts its club record 26 game road trip with a grand slam by Eric Anthony. The Astros marathon journey is necessitated by the Republican Convention taking over the Astrodome.

» September 23, 1992: The Padres celebrate "Unemployment Night" by firing manager Greg Riddoch. He is replaced by Jim Riggleman. It doesn't help as the Astros beat San Diego, 7–6. Eric Anthony and Jeff Bagwell each hit their 17th home run for Houston, while Guillermo Velasquez pinch hits a 2–run homer for the Pads.

» April 4, 1994: Jacobs Field in Cleveland opens with the Indians defeating the Mariners, 4-3, in front of 41,259 fans. Seattle OF Eric Anthony hits the stadium's first home run, while Eric Plunk notches the first victory in relief.

» June 22, 1995: The Reds defeat the Braves, 9-8, as Cincinnati's Eric Anthony and Eddie Taubensee both hit pinch-hitter home runs in the 8th inning. It is only the 2nd time that a club has hit two pinch homers in the same frame in the National League since 1975.

» May 7, 1996: Eric Anthony and Eric Davis hit back-to-back homers in the 12th inning off reliever Todd Worrell to give host Cincinnati a 3–2 win over the Dodgers. Before the game, the Dodgers announce that CF Brett Butler has throat cancer and will not return to baseball. Butler, 38, has been on the DL since May 2, and a tonsillectomy revealed the cancerous lump. He will undergo surgery on May 21.

» July 30, 1996: The Reds acquire OF Kevin Mitchell from the Red Sox for minor leaguers Brad Tweedlie and Roberto Mejia. Cincy also sells OF Eric Anthony to the Rockies.
