The Browns traded their longtime star, Sammy West, to Washington for this Mexican-born leadoff hitter in June 1938, and Almada batted .342 the rest of the way. His skills disappeared during the off-season, and a poor start in 1939 resulted in his sale to Brooklyn. (JK)
