Benny Agbayani, Norfolk Tides outfielder about to be called up to the Mets, is married at home plate to his fiancee Neila before Triple–A All–Star game between the International and Pacific Coast Leagues. Agbayani, from Hawaii, and his bride wear Hawaiian shirts and have a receiving line of bat–toting ballplayers. The IL whips the PCL, 8-4. Tomorrow, Agbayani will make his ML debut, pinch–running in the 9th of an 8–8 game. He will slip trying to steal and get run down. Another Met runner is doubled off 2B in the 10th and the Expos win, 9–8. » March 30, 2000: The Mets defeat the Cubs in the Tokyo Dome, 5-1, in 11 innings on Benny Agbayani's pinch-hitter grand slam. Rey Ordońez commits an error in the game, ending his major league record streak of 101 consecutive errorless games at SS. With a swipe of 2B, Rickey Henderson joins Ted Williams as the only players to steal a base in four decades.

The Major League Baseball Players Association again denies several major-leaguers admission to the union. The players crossed picket lines during the 1994-95 strike becoming replacement players. These players don't pay union dues, receive full pension benefits, and can to use the Association's grievance procedure. However, they do not receive a share of royalties from the sale of baseball merchandise. Historian Stuart Shea notes the players are the only ex-replacements currently on major-league rosters: Benny Agbayani and Rick Reed of the Mets; Trenidad Hubbard and Kerry Ligtenberg of the Braves; Cory Lidle and Damian Miller of the Diamondbacks; Keith Osik and Rich Loiselle of the Pirates; Matt Herges of the Dodgers; Joe Slusarski of the Astros; Shane Spencer of the Yankees; Jeff Tam of the A's; Donne Wall of the Padres.
» August 12, 2000: The Mets defeat the Giants, 3-2, despite a mental mistake by OF Benny Agbayani which costs the team a run. After catching a fly ball for the 2nd out in the 4th inning, the Mets OF hands the ball to a 7-year-old boy in the stands, mistakenly thinking the ball was the 3rd out of the inning, while two Giant runners score.
» October 7, 2000: The Mets defeat the Giants, 3-2, on a 13th inning home run by Benny Agbayani to take a 2-games-to-1 lead in their division series. The Mets last five postseason wins have come in their last at bat.
» October 24, 2000: The Mets defeat the Yankees, 4-2, behind the pitching of Rick Reed and their bullpen. Benny Agbayani's 8th inning double is the key hit for NY as the cut the Yankees Series lead to 2-games-to-1. Orlando Hernandez fans 12 but loses his 1st postseason game after eight wins. The loss ends the Yankees record streak of 14 consecutive wins in World Series action.
» January 21, 2002: In a complicated three–team deal, the Colorado Rockies trade Alex Ochoa and two prospects to the Mets for veterans Benny Agbayani and Todd Zeile. The Rocks will pay $2 mil of Zeile's $6 million contract, while the Mets agree to pay $3.25 million of it, plus a $500,000 buyout payment on the contract. The Mets receive minor leaguers Ross Gload and Craig House from Colorado. The 3rd team in the deal, the Brewers, pay $250,000 of it. The Brewers then send slugger Jeremy Burnitz, starter Jeff D'Amico, INF Lou Collier, and two prospects to the Mets. New York ships pinchhitter/IF Lenny Harris, P Glendon Rusch, and Ochoa to Milwaukee. The Mets have now replaced half of their 2001 roster.
