The Mexican-born reliever was the ace of the Chicago bullpen in 1973, winning 10 and saving 18. After shoulder, elbow, and eye injuries disabled him for much of 1974, he never won another game. (JCA)

» June 20, 1973: Chicago's Cy Acosta becomes the first American League pitcher to bat since the DH rule went into effect. Acosta strikes out in the 8th inning, but is credited with an 8–3 victory over California.
