Jul 4, 1947 - New York's Spud Chandler defeats the Senators‚ 7-3‚ for his final major league victory. Bone chips in his pitching arm will sideline the 39-year-old vet‚ but he'll end the year with the loop's 2nd best ERA (2.46). Joe Haynes will top the A.L. with a 2.42 ERA.

May 24, 1947 - Matching the Chief's game yesterday‚ Spud Chandler gives the Yankees a 5-0 win over Boston‚ allowing 2 hits.

May 17, 1947 - The Yanks win a pair from the White Sox by 4-3 scores. Spec Shea wins the opener‚ collecting three hits a two runs scored. Joe DiMaggio's homer in the bottom of the 9th‚ off Maltzberger‚ is the winner. Bill Dickey's brother George has a pair of hits and a stolen base for the White Sox. In the nitecap‚ George McQuinn has three hits and scores the winning run in the 8th to break up the pitching duel between Spud Chandler and Chicago's Ed Lopat.

Apr 15, 1947 - With yesterday's opener in Washington rained out‚ the A's open at Yankee Stadium before 39‚344. Under new manager Bucky Harris‚ the Yanks manage just six hits off Phil Marchildon as the A's win‚ 6-1. Eddie Joost and Elmer Valo pull off a double steal in the 5th when the A's increase their lead to 3-0. Joost scores on the swipe of home. Former A's vet George McQuillan‚ playing 1B for Nick Etten‚ scores New York's only run. Spud Chandler takes the loss.

Jul 2, 1946 - The Yankees nip the Red Sox 2-1 before a Stadium crowd of 69‚107. Spud Chandler walks 9 in the first 4 innings but takes a no-hitter into the 9th before Bobby Doerr hits a one-out single.

May 12, 1946 - A crowd of 69‚401‚ the largest in Stadium history‚ watch the Yankees give the Red Sox 2 unearned runs and manage just 3 hits off Mickey Harris‚ and lose to Boston‚ 3-1. The Sox gets just 3 hits off loser Spud Chandler.

May 2, 1946 - At Yankee Stadium‚ the Yanks do all their scoring in the 4th to beat Cleveland‚ 8-2. Nick Etten cracks a grand slam and then ends the inning by lining into a DP with the bases loaded. Spud Chandler wins his 4th straight.

Apr 16, 1946 - At Shibe Park‚ Spud Chandler‚ 38‚ allows just 5 hits as the Yankees beat the A's‚ 5-0. Chandler spent most of 1944-45 in the Army and appeared in just 5 games in two years. Joe DiMaggio has a two-run homer and Tommy Henrich a two-run double to pace the offense. A's starter Russ Christopher allows all the runs in his six innings of work.

Aug 29, 1939 - Detroit snaps the Yankees' win streak at 10 games by beating the visiting New Yorkers‚ 8-7. DiMaggio‚ hitting .408‚ hits a 3-run HR in the 9th to tie it‚ but the Bengals score off reliever Spud Chandler. After going 16-3 in their last 19 games‚ the Yankees now lead the AL by 12 lengths. During that span‚ the Yankees have scored an impressive 125 more runs than they've allowed.
