    Woodie Held from the Chronology

Oct 12, 1965 - Washington trades OF Woodie Held to Baltimore for C John Orsino.

Dec 1, 1964 - The Indians obtain OF Chuck Hinton from Washington for 1B Bob Chance and IF/OF Woodie Held.

May 6, 1961 - In Cleveland, the Indians Woodie Held loses a first inning grand slam when rain washes out the game with the Washington Senators after two innings.

Sep 4, 1960 - Woodie Held hits 2 homers and a double and drives in 6 runs to pace the Indians to a 10-2 win over the A's. Jimmy Piersall also homers.

Jun 15, 1958 - The Indians trade OF Roger Maris‚ 1B Preston Ward‚ and LHP Dick Tomanek to the Athletics for 1B Vic Power and SS Woodie Held. Insiders fear the worst: that A's president Arnold Johnson will follow script and put Maris in Yankee pinstripes.

Jun 15, 1957 - At Kansas City‚ the Yankees win 9-2 over the A's‚ beating Virgil Trucks. In more fallout over the Copacabana incident‚ the Yankees then trade Billy Martin to Kansas City with SS Woodie Held and OF Bob Martyn for P Ryne Duren‚ 2B Milt Graff and outfielders Harry Simpson and Jim Pisoni.

Mar 13, 1954 - Newly acquired Bobby Thomson of the Braves breaks his ankle sliding into 2B under Woodie Held in a 3-2 exhibition loss to the Yankees at Al Lang Field. The injury‚ a trimalleor fracture‚ will keep Thomson out of action until July 14th‚ but it will open the way for Henry Aaron to start in the left field. Ironically‚ Aaron will suffer a fracture in September.
