    Sock it to the Rocket:Yankees starter Roger Clemens was booed off the mound after allowing eight runs and nine hits in 1 2/3 innings. It was his shortest outing since June 14, 2000, when he left after three outs against Boston.

    Not to be underdone:Chicago's Jon Garland also gave up eight runs and nine hits -- in 1 1/3 innings.

    Eight each?Only once before have both teams scored at least eight in an inning. Detroit scored eight and Texas 10 in the fifth of the Rangers'16-15, 10-inning win on May 8, 2004.

    Going for 500:Alex Rodriguez, trying to become the youngest player to hit 500 homers, is stuck at 499 but ended his career-worst hitless streak at 22 at-bats. Today, A-Rod faces Kansas City, the team that allowed No. 499 on July 25.

    Derek who?Wilson Betemit started at short and hit a three-run homer in his first at-bat as a Yankee.

    Big bats:NY had 33 runs and 15 homers in the series.
