Dec 10, 1953 - The Reds trade OF Willard Marshall to the White Sox for IFs Rocky Krsnich‚ Connie Ryan and P Saul Rogovin. The Sox also pick up Cass Michaels from the A's.
Jun 4, 1952 - The Reds purchase veteran OF Willard Marshall from the Boston Braves.
Aug 19, 1951 - In Boston the Braves score 5 in the 6th and roll over the Dodgers 13-4. Warren Spahn picks up his 15th win and his 21st complete game. A 2nd-inning homer by Willard Marshall off Ralph Branca starts the scoring.
Jul 6, 1951 - At the Polo Grounds the Braves smack 2 HRs (Willard Marshall and Walker Cooper) in the top of the 3rd only to have the Giants answer with 3 HRs-by Westrum Thomson and Mueller-in the bottom of the inning. The Giants outslug the Braves for the game 12-10.
May 6, 1950 - The Boston Braves hit 5 HRs in a 15-11 trouncing of the Reds. This gives them a NL record 13 HRs in 3 consecutive games breaking the Giants' mark of 12 set on July 1 2 3 1947. Luis Olmo Earl Torgeson Bob Elliott Willard Marshall and Sid Gordon hit the five today. Hatton and Northey hit consecutive HRs for the Reds.
Dec 14, 1949 - In a major trade‚ the Giants get Alvin Dark and Eddie Stanky from the Braves in a swap for Willard Marshall‚ Sid Gordon‚ Buddy Kerr‚ and Sam Webb.
Jul 3, 1949 - Giants P Monte Kennedy hits a 7th inning grand slam and shuts out the Dodgers 16-0. The Giants amass 20 hits batting around in the 1st and 7th. John Mize and Willard Marshall each have four hits as every starter collects at least a hit. Ralph Branca (10-2) exits early but takes the loss. It is a club record for the biggest shutout win that will stand until May 2000.

May 9, 1949 - The first-place Giants win their 7th in a row as Sheldon (Available) Jones stops the Cubs 7-2. Aided by ten walks and homers by Sid Gordon and Willard Marshall the Giants pin the loss on starter Ralph Hamner who allows one hit in three innings.

Mel Ott's club had hit 5 HRs in a doubleheader against the Cubs August 24 to break Chicago's 1929 NL record. The Giants will finish with 221 HRs led by Johnny Mize Walker Cooper Willard Marshall and rookie Bobby Thomson.
Jul 30, 1947 - The New York Giants edge the Cincinnati Reds 5-4 in 10 innings ending Ewell Blackwell's winning streak at 16 games a NL record for right handers. All the games were complete games and five were shutouts. The Giants tie in the 9th on Willard Marshall's 27th homer.
Jul 18, 1947 - Willard Marshall of the New York Giants hits 3 consecutive HRs to help Larry Jansen beats the visiting Reds 8-3. Marshall drives home 5 to give him the majors' leadership with 73. Thomson and Mize add circuit clouts for the Ottmen who move into 2nd place ahead of the Braves.

In a sign of things to come this year the Giants counter with 6 homers-2 apiece by Bobby Thomson and Bill Rigney and one apiece by Johnny Mize and Willard Marshall. Scout Burt Shotton is the surprise choice to replace Leo Durocher: he participates in the pre game flag raising and then manages the team.
Apr 15, 1942 - The Giants score 6 runs in the 6th inning to top the Dodgers 6-4. Ott's Men start the scoring in the big inning with a leadoff homer by Danning and conclude it with a grand slam by prized rookie Willard Marshall. The two blows offset homers by Riggs and Walker for Brooklyn. Giants fans are asked to return foul balls so that they can be sent to Army camps.
