The redheaded Garrett played mostly third base, and hit .385 for the Mets in the
1969 LCS. He led 1973
World Series players with 11 strikeouts (tying a seven-game
Series futility record) and two HR. Brother Adrian spent small parts of eight seasons
in the majors. After losing a game to the 1969 Mets, Cub
Ron Santo - referring to
rookie Garrett at second base,
Ed Kranepool at first base, Al Weis at shortstop,
and Bobby Pfeil at third base - remarked, "It's a shame losing to an infield like
that...I wouldn't let that infield play in Tacoma."
