May 6, 1962 - The Mets acquire Vinegar Bend Mizell from the Pirates for Jim Marshall then send Don Zimmer to Cincinnati for P Bob Miller and infielder Cliff Cook.
Aug 25, 1960 - Glenn Hobbie picks a good time to hit his first ML HR connecting off Vinegar Bend Mizell with 2 out in the 9th to give the Cubs a 2-1 win over the Pirates.
Apr 12, 1959 - At St. Louis the Giants break a 3-3 tie when with 2 out in the 9th Jim Davenport bunts safely off Vinegar Bend Mizell. Orlando Cepeda follows with a triple and Felipe Alou homers. Giants win 6-3.
Sep 1, 1958 - The Cardinals Vinegar Bend Mizell beats the Reds 1-0 while walking a NL record (for a shutout) 9 batters. The Reds also swipe 5 bases. Mizell allows 4 hits the same number as his opponent Joe Nuxhall who loses on an unearned run. The Reds come back to win the 2nd game of the doubleheader 9-3. Alex Kellner is the winner with 8 1/3 innings or shutout relief.
Aug 16, 1956 - Stan Musial belts his 1072nd extra base hit to breaks Ott's NL mark. But the Cardinals can do little against the Braves' Lew Burdette losing 8-0. Vinegar Bend Mizell takes the loss.
May 30, 1956 - Gus Bell Ted Kluszewski and Frank Robinson hit consecutive homers for the Reds against the Cards Vinegar Bend Mizell. The homers do little however as they come with two outs in the 9th and the Reds trailing 9-0.
Apr 17, 1956 - Frank Robinson makes his ML debut with a double off Vinegar Bend Mizell in his 1st at bat. But the Cards beat the Reds 4-2 when Musial hits a 2-out 2-run 9th inning homer.
May 4, 1953 - Busch Stadium bans bottles from the park during a game due to fans tossing soda bottles during a 7-6 Browns loss to the Yankees on April 28th. Meanwhile at Pittsburgh the Cards Vinegar Bend Mizell shuts out the Bucs 5-0.

Apr 23, 1952 - Vinegar Bend Mizell the Cards highly touted rookie allows just 5 hits in his ML debut but he is shaded by the Reds Ken Raffensberger who wins 2-1. The game was marred by ejections of Stanky Hemus and Brazle. Stanky's banishment his first as a manager follows a strike call by ump Scotty Robb. The NL will fine and reprimand Robb for pushing Stanky. Stanky and Hemus also receive fines.
May 13, 1951 - At Ft. Worth ex-Dodger Rex Barney walks 16 Houston batters in 7 2/3 innings to set a Texas League record. Barney faces 41 batters and is behind on all but 7 off them and adds 2 wild pitches. He leaves with a 2-1 score after walking across a run in the 8th and ends up losing 6-2 to Vinegar Bend Mizell.
