Twins: Too much -- times two: CHICAGO - The plan was to finish the day with two wins. The path taken couldn't have been dreamed up by David Chase. The Twins took two games from the White Sox by scores of 20-14 in the first game and 12-0 in the second game. It was during the second game that Justin Morneau became the fourth Twin in history to hit three homers in one game, joining Bob Allison, Harmon Killebrew and Tony Oliva. Before that feat, two separate crowds at U.S. Cellular Field witnessed a grand slam and career-high seven RBI by Jason Kubel, five RBI by Joe Mauer, and an early 10-run lead that was whittled down eno

Notes: Oliva reacts to Vets ballot results: Tony Oliva's been through so many Hall of Fame elections that have ended in disappointing results that he chose not to be around when this year's Veterans Committee vote was announced Tuesday.

Hall of Fame: Oliva, Kaat left out again: FORT MYERS, FLA. - Tony Oliva fell 15 votes short of being elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, as the 84-member Veterans Committee snubbed the entire field again. Players need to be named on 75 percent of the ballots to be elected, and Oliva, the three-time batting champion with the Twins, received 47 votes, or 57 percent. Ron Santo came the closest with 57 votes (70 percent), followed by former Twins righthander Jim Kaat (52, 63 percent), Gil Hodges (50, 61 percent) and Oliva. Since the Veterans Committee was reconfigured in 2001 -- it now includes 61 Hall of Famers -- it has go

Vets admit no new Hall of Famers again (AP): Ron Santo, Jim Kaat and Marvin Miller can only hope their Hall of Fame vote totals improve next time. A change in the Veterans Committee might help them, too. The Hall threw another shutout Tuesday when the vets panel admitted no new members for the third straight election. Gil Hodges, Tony Oliva and Doug Harvey were among those left out.

Oliva could get call today, but he's not hopeful: FORT MYERS, FLA. - Tony Oliva began laughing when it was pointed out that the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame Veterans Committee will announce this year's selections, if any, today. Once again, the former Twins great is a candidate, but he didn't seem to have high hopes he would be selected. "What can you say? I don't know what to think about," said Oliva, a special instructor at Twins camp. "It is out of my hands. If this happens, it will be beautiful. If it doesn't happen, I'm not going to think about it. I won't be too high or too low. "In the past, I thought I had a good chance to be
