    Jul 14, 1999 - In an ill-conceived move‚ umpires union-chief Richie Phillips announces that 57 umpires will resign on September 2. Among other things‚ the umps reportedly are upset at the 3-day suspension Tom Hallion received for bumping Rockies C Jeff Reed on July 2.

    Jun 20, 1994 - Umpires Dana DeMuth‚ Tom Hallion‚ Paul Runge‚ and Angel Hernandez work the Atlanta-NY game wearing shorts and Braves T-shirts and caps. The umps regular equipment was lost in transit. The Braves win the game‚ 7-3.

    Jul 28, 1973 - Tony Perez makes his 4th hit of the game a good one‚ homering in the 10th to beat the Padres‚ 2-1. Don Gullett‚ in relief of Tom Hall‚ is the winner over Randy Jones.

    Jul 14, 1972 - In a ML first‚ the plate umpire and the catcher in a game are brothers. Bill Haller is the ump and Tom Haller is the Tigers catcher during a game with the Royals. Kansas City wins 1-0.

    May 14, 1972 - Happy birthday‚ Tony. On his 30th birthday‚ Tony Perez knocks in all the 6 of the Reds' runs as they sweep a pair from the Cardinals‚ winning 4-3 and 2-0. The nitecap is a stellar 3-hit‚ 12 strikeout shutout by pitcher Tom Hall.

    Aug 4, 1971 - Tom Walker of Fort Worth (Texas League) pitches a 15-inning‚ 1-0 no-hit win over Albuquerque‚ the 2nd longest no-hitter in baseball history. The Dukes Tom Haller matches Walker‚ scattering 9 hits in 14 innings before exiting. Enos Cabell's run-scoring double ends it. Only Fred Toney's 17-inning no-hitter in 1909 is longer.

    Jul 25, 1970 - Hall beats Hall as the Orioles reliever Dick Hall tops the Twins Tom Hall‚ 6-5. Dick singles in the 8th for his first hit of the year and Buford follows with a game-winning HR.

    Feb 13, 1968 - The Giants trade C Tom Haller and P Frank Kasheta to the Dodgers for infielders Ron Hunt and Nate Oliver. This is the first trade between the 2 clubs since 1956 when Jackie Robinson was sent to the Giants but retired instead.
