Jul 18, 1969 - At Crosley Field the Astros take a 9-0 lead after batting in the 6th only to lose 10-9. The Reds score a run in the 6th 2 in the 7th and tie it with 6 in the 8th. Cincy wins it in the 11th when Ted Savage drives in a run off Jack Billingham.
Apr 23, 1968 - The Cubs make a canny trade acquiring P Phil Regan and OF Jim Hickman from the Dodgers for OF Ted Savage and P Jim Ellis.
Aug 31, 1967 - Before a crowd of 4992 at Wrigley Field rookies Tom Seaver and Rich Nye battle for 10 innings to a 1-1 tie. In the bottom of the 11th the Cubs put 2 aboard with no outs and Ted Savage attempts to bunt. With the count 1-2 Durocher lifts Savage for Al Spangler who slaps a single to give the Cubs a 2-1 win over the Mets. Pinch runner Fergie Jenkins scores the run.
May 20, 1967 - At Wrigley the Cubs pound Los Angeles 20-3 to give Ken Holtzman (5-0) a win before he leaves tomorrow for a 6-month tour of duty in the Army. The hitting stars are Adolpho Phillips with 6 RBI Randy Hundley with a grand slam and Glenn Beckert with a double and an inside-the-park HR. Rounding out the scoring is Ted Savage's steal of home. In the Dodger dugout in 7th inning Don Drysdale waves a white handkerchief of surrender. Holtzman will pitch on weekend passes and tack on another 4 wins without a loss.
