Jun 24, 1974 - Steve Busby retires the first 9 White Sox to set an AL record with 33 consecutive batsmen retired. The Royals lose however 3-1.
Jun 19, 1974 - George Scott who walks to lead off the 2nd inning is the Brewers' only base runner as the Royals Steve Busby hurls a 2-0 no-hitter. Busby is the first ML pitcher to throw no-hitters in his first 2 seasons.
Aug 1, 1973 - The Chicago White Sox fall 4-2 to Kansas City as Royals righthander Steve Busby picks off Pat Kelly in the 8th. Kelly is on 1B when Busby fakes a pickoff on the runner on 3B and whirls and fires to 1B to catch Kelly. Busby has done this move several times this season including once on national television.
Apr 27, 1973 - In 50-degree Detroit weather Royals rookie Steve Busby no-hits the Tigers 3-0. It is the first Royals no-hitter and the first in Tiger Stadium since Virgil Trucks's in 1952. Busby is the first no-hit game pitcher not to bat.
Sep 20, 1972 - At Anaheim, Royals pitcher Steve Busby loses a grand slam when 1B ump John Rice signals that he had called time before the gopher pitch. John Mayberry had already hit a grand slam in the inning. Busby (2-0) wins, 9-2, pitching his second complete game following his debut win on September 8.
