Pitching almost exclusively for second-division clubs, Johnson won only 101 games in 17 seasons. He led the NL in losses twice and in 1933 lost 12 straight for the last-place Reds. He spent 1944-45 in the Navy, avoiding two more last-place finishes by the Phillies. (JK)
