Signed out of the University of Maryland by his uncle, Senators owner
Clark Griffith,
Robertson opened 1943 as Washington's third baseman despite uniformly terrible minor
league stats. He hit .217 in 59 games before being drafted into the service. In seven
postwar seasons, all but the last with the Senators, he appeared in over 100 games
only in 1949, when he hit .251 with 11 homers. From 1953 on, he worked in the Senators'
front office, serving as farm director from
1958 to 1970.
