Jul 15, 1951 - Athletics lefty Sam Zoldak pitches a one-hitter against the White Sox‚ winning 5-0 in the 2nd game of a doubleheader. Carrasquel has the lone safety‚ a dribbler between SS and 3B. Zoldak also drives in 2 runs. Bob Hooper is the winner for the A's in game 1‚ helping the cause with a 3-run HR. The A's lose Ferris Fain when he grounds out in game 1 and‚ in disgust‚ kicks 1B breaking his foot. Fain is leading the AL with a .337 average. He'll return on August 21.

Apr 30, 1951 - In a complex 3-way deal‚ the White Sox get OF/3B Minnie Minoso from the Indians and OF Paul Lehner from the Athletics. Philadelphia sends P Lou Brissie to Cleveland and gets OF Gus Zernial and Dave Philley from Chicago and P Sam Zoldak and C Ray Murray from Cleveland. Hard-luck lefty Lou Brissie is considered the plum in the proceedings. Rookie Minoso‚ who hit .339 at San Diego (PCL) last year is leading all Indian hitters with a .461 mark.

Jul 27, 1949 - Three homers are lost in a rain-shortened game at Yankee Stadium between the Yankees and the Indians (as noted in Retrosheet). In the bottom of the first, Tommy Henrich homers off Cleveland's Bob Feller with two on and no one out. In the top of the second, Joe Gordon bangs a solo shot with one out off Ed Lopat. One inning later, Cleveland pitcher Sam Zoldak hits a solo homer with one out off Lopat. Zoldak loses his only career homer with the washout.

Sep 12, 1948 - The Indians stretch their winning streak to seven games as Sam Zoldak wins his 3rd in five days. The Tribe beat the Browns‚ 6-4‚ then settle for a 3-3 thirteen inning tie. Karl Drews walks 8 in less than 4 innings to take the loss for the Browns. The Browns chase Satchel Paige in the 5th‚ but Zoldak nails down the win. Cleveland is in 3rd place by 2 1/2 games behind New York and Boston.

Aug 28, 1948 - The Yanks stroll into 2nd-place by edging the Indians‚ 3-2. Ahead 2-1‚ Sam Zoldak wilts in the 98 degree weather and Gene Bearden replaces him in the 9th. DiMaggio is hit‚ and two wild throws brings in Ed Klieman‚ who finishes the walk to Berra. A Brown sac bunt‚ and an intentional pass to Rizzuto load the bases. Mapes walks to force in a run and a grounder brings home the winner.

Aug 20, 1948 - The Indians draw record 78‚382 for the largest crowd to attend a night game. The Indians go on to beat the Chicago White Sox‚ 1-0‚ at Memorial Stadium as Satchel Paige blanks the opposition on 3 hits for the 4th consecutive shutout by Cleveland hurlers. Bill Wight is the hard-luck loser. Besides Paige‚ Gene BeardenSam Zoldak‚ and Bob Lemon fired shutouts.

Aug 1, 1948 - At Cleveland‚ the Tribe sweep a pair from the Red Sox‚ 12-2 and 6-1‚ to move into 2nd place in the AL. Bob Lemon coasts to his 14th win in the opener‚ beating Ellis Kinder. Larry Doby drives in 4 runs. Cleveland RF Edwards dislocates his shoulder crashing into the fence making a spectacular catch of Spence's HR bid. Sam Zoldak wins the nitecap. The Sox drop from 1st to 4th place with the double loss: Cleveland‚ New York and Boston are each a game back of the A's.

Jun 15, 1948 - Cleveland picks up pitcher Sam Zoldak from the Browns for Bill Kennedy and a magnanimous $100‚000. Kennedy will win 7 for the Browns in 1948‚ while Zoldak will be 9-6 for the Tribe.

Feb 17, 1944 - Connie Mack brings back Frankie Hayes to the A's‚ trading P Sam Zoldak and minor leaguer Barney Lutz to the Browns for the catcher.
