    Sep 24, 1968 - Manager Gil Hodges suffers a heart attack during New York's game with the Braves. He is hospitalized‚ and Rube Walker takes the helm for the rest of the season. The Aaron brothers‚ Tommie and Hank‚ pull off a double steal for the Braves‚ with Hank scoring. The pair combine for 5 hits in a 7-3 win over the Mets.

    Jan 12, 1961 - Charlie Grimm and Verlon Walker (brother of Rube Walker) are named the 6th and 7th members of the Cubs coaching staff.

    Jun 30, 1955 - The Dodgers come back three times to beat the Giants‚ 6-5. On the front end of a double steal with Dusty Rhodes in the 7th‚ Wayne Terwilliger scores to put New York up‚ 3-2. Brooklyn scores in the 9th to tie it up. Mays hits a 2-run homer in the 10th and Brooklyn again comes back to tie‚ Durocher uses 4 pitchers to pitch to 4 batters in the 11th but Brooklyn scores to win‚ 6-5. The Dodgers press Dixie Howell into service when Rube Walker is injured in the 8th in a collision with Mays: Campanella is out with a knee injury.

    Aug 25, 1954 - The Dodgers hit 9 HRs in a 2-day sweep of the host Redlegs‚ winning 12-4 yesterday and 13-2 today. They have hit 38 in 18 games with Cincy. Gil Hodges of the Dodgers has 2 homers today‚ as does Rube Walker‚ to knock in 100 runs for the 6th consecutive season. Furillo‚ with a homer‚ drives in 5 runs‚ and Walker 4. Billy Loes wins his 8th straight as the Dodgers move to 3 1/2 games behind New York.

    May 28, 1954 - At the Polo Grounds‚ the Giants whip the Dodgers 17-6 with a 6-HR barrage. Four of the HRs come in the 8th as Davey WilliamsAlvin DarkMonte Irvin‚ and Billy Gardner connect off Ben Wade. Whitey Lockman‚ in the 1st‚ and Willie Mays‚ in the 2nd account for the other two. Brooklyn scores a run in the 6th when Giants P Marv Grissom balks home Rube Walker from 3B. Catcher Ray Katt is at fault‚ having called a time out when Grissom is in his windup.

    Oct 2, 1951 - The Dodgers bounce back as rookie Clem Labine evens the playoff with a 10-0 win‚ besting the Giants' Sheldon Jones. Home runs are smashed by Jackie RobinsonGil HodgesAndy Pafko‚ and Rube Walker. Willie Mays grounds into 3 DP.

    Jun 15, 1951 - Just before game time at Wrigley Field‚ the Cubs and the first-place Dodgers make another trade this one 4-for-4: OF Andy Pafko‚ P Johnny Schmitz‚ C Rube Walker‚ and IF Wayne Terwilliger go to Brooklyn for C Bruce Edwards‚ OF Gene Hermanski‚ IF Eddie Miksis‚ and P Joe Hatten. To the surprise of fans‚ the 8 appear in their new uniforms. The Cubs get the best today as Bruce Edward knocks in 4 runs‚ three on a homer‚ off Carl Erskine‚ and Miksis fields well. Pafko hits his 13th homer in a losing cause and will incur an injury in this series that will sideline for three weeks in July. But the New York Post expresses the sentiment of most‚ calling it "the most barefaced swindle in years."

    Jul 23, 1950 - Sheldon Jones of the NY Giants pitches a one-hitter against the Cubs‚ winning 3-0 in the 2nd game of a doubleheader. Rube Walker's hit in the 8th is the only safety. Larry Jansen takes the first‚ 5-3.
