In 1904 the Highlanders (later the Yankees) came within one pitch of winning their first pennant. Forty-one-game winner Jack Chesbro sailed a spitball well over Kleinow's head which was ruled a wild pitch, but Kleinow took criticism for failing to catch it. (JK)
