An annual mid-season exhibition game played between the
Montreal Expos and Toronto
Blue Jays for the mythical "Canadian Baseball Championship", the Pearson Cup is named
for the late Lester Pearson (1895-1972). A lifelong baseball fan, Pearson was instrumental
in bringing the Expos to Montreal. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1957 for his role
in ending the 1956 Arab-Israeli war, and served as Canadian prime minister, 1963-1968.
Proceeds of the Pearson Cup game benefit Canadian amateur baseball programs.
