The brawling Irishman was the first player to hit two home runs in a
World Series
with a pair for the Red Sox in 1903. After Dougherty engaged in a fistfight with
Highlanders Manager
Clark Griffith, New York placed him on waivers. White Sox Manager
Fielder Jones, who'd earlier discovered Dougherty as a semi-pro, claimed him to bolster
the "Hitless Wonders," the 1906 Sox who won the World Championship. He led the AL
in stolen bases in 1908 with 47.
