Long a Los Angeles Dodger coach, Basgall originally signed with Brooklyn at age 19 in 1942, but he spent most of his playing career in the Pirates' organization. In 1949, he played in 107 games and hit .218 as Pittsburgh's sub for injured Danny Murtaugh. (MC)
