Gross was a humorist and humanist whose column, "Speaking Out," appeared in the New York Post and other papers for 24 years. He was one of the first to interview athletes and write about them as people with human emotions and frailties. Gross wrote numerous magazine articles and books on boxing and golf, and a baseball book, Yankee Doodles. (NLM)
