Boston's number-one pick in the June 1967 draft, the 6'3" Garman had an outstanding
fastball and good curve. He pitched sparingly for the Red Sox but blossomed as a
reliever with St. Louis. He saved 12 for the 1977 NL champion Dodgers, and 42 lifetime.
Garman's father was in the Pirate farm system, brother Steve in the Giants'.
