Sep 16, 1949 - When Browns' C Les Moss catches a pop foul Red Sox base runner Birdie Tebbett's starts for 2nd drawing the throw. Lou Stringer the baserunner on 3rd then scores. Stringer has 4 hits 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored as the Red Sox roll 12-4. Mel Parnell is the easy winner at Fenway. With the Yanks beating the Tigers Boston remain 2 1/2 games in back.
Sep 13, 1942 - Chicago Cub SS Lennie Merullo makes a ML record 4 errors all on consecutive plays in the 2nd inning of the nightcap against the Boston Braves. The Cubs win 12-8 after losing the first game 11-6. Merullo who made an error in the opener is comforted by his DP partner Lou Stringer who made 4 errors in his ML debut a year ago. Merullo has a son born today and his teammates suggest he nickname him "Boots."
Apr 22, 1942 - At Pittsburgh Rip Sewell holds the Cubs to 6 hits including an inside-the-park homer by Lou Stringer to give the Pirates a 5-2 win. The homer is the only one the Cubs will hit at Forbes Field this year and on the 27th Stringer will hit the Cubs lone 1942 HR at Cincinnati. Hi Bithorn takes the loss.
Mar 8, 1942 - In a charity game at Gilmore Field in Hollywood CA three Chicago players lead a team of major Leaguers to a 3-2 win over a team of coast players. Taft Wright's 2-run homer is the big blow. The go-ahead run comes in the 3rd when Lou Stringer's single is followed by Lou Novikoff's double. Seven thousand fans are on hand.
