Fette astounded the baseball world when he and fellow rookie teammate
Jim Turner
each won 20 games in 1937. More remarkable was that both of the Braves' "ancient
rookies" topped 30 years of age. Fette was a quiet, hard-working, poised pitcher
who shared the league lead in shutouts in 1937 with five, and led in 1939 with six.
