Frey played
in three All-Star Games and three
World Series, and in 1939 batted .291
and scored 95 runs to help Cincinnati into the WS. Pitcher
Bucky Walters remembered
teammates Frey, Myers, and third baseman
Bill Werber as "good, fast, smart ballplayers."
Indeed, Frey was fast enough to lead the NL with 22 stolen bases for the Reds in
1940. Although he twice topped NL shortstops in errors, Frey led the league's second
basemen twice each in fielding percentage and double plays.
