Handley was a rookie Pirate regular at second base in 1937, and a full- or part-time third baseman from 1938 through 1941, tying for the NL lead in steals (17) in 1939. The flashy 5'7" infielder suffered a serious beaning in 1939 and was hurt in an auto accident after the 1941 season. He recovered and platooned at third base for Pittsburgh in 1945-46. Brother Gene was an A's infielder, 1946-47. (ME)
