Kent Mercker in the News
Three Reds file for free agency: Three more Reds filed to become free agents on Friday. Utility player Jerry Hairston Jr., catcher Javier Valentin and pitcher Kent Mercker all declared during the second day of the filing period.
Belisle sent to Minors; Mercker activated: Matt Belisle's days as a Reds starting pitcher appear to be over. And for the time being, at least, Belisle's days in the Major Leagues are over, too. On Thursday, the Reds optioned the right-hander to Triple-A Louisville, where he was told he would work as a reliever -- not a starter. Reliever Kent Mercker was activated from the 15-day disabled list to fill Belisle's roster spot.
