Landreaux was TSN Minor League Player of the Year in 1977 with a .359 average at Salt Lake City (Pacific Coast League) and broke in with the Angels late that
year. He threw out three baserunners from the outfield in his first ML game. He was
traded to the Twins when the Angels acquired Rod Carew before the 1979 season, and
in 1980 he set a Minnesota record with a 31-game hitting streak, the longest in the
AL since Dom DiMaggio's 34 in
1949. He also tied a ML record with three triples in
one game that July 3. Landreaux was traded to the Dodgers for three prospects in
1981 and was their starting centerfielder through 1985. He enjoyed his best season
in 1983 (.281, 17 HR, 66 RBI), and in the strike-shortened 1981 season he did not
make a single error.
